Kinship" Dispute Between Two Kurdish Figures Sparks Political Debate
A heated exchange has broken out between Ardahan-born journalist Levent Gültekin and Kars-born politician Tuncer Bakırhan over the nature of cross-border Kurdish ties.
Gültekin recently criticized Turkey’s Syria policy and questioned those showing solidarity with Kurds in Syria, asking: "What is it to you? Is he your father's son? Is he your relative?" His comments immediately drew fire from the political arena.
Tuncer Bakırhan, Co-Chair of the DEM Party, responded sharply without naming Gültekin directly. "You fool; those people there are your relatives, your brothers, and your very soul," Bakırhan stated, emphasizing the deep historical and familial bonds between Kurds across the border. This clash between two influential Kurdish figures from eastern Turkey highlights the growing domestic tension over the shifting dynamics in Syria.
