State Steps In After Nationalist Leader's Call
Turkish Parliament Delegation Visits Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı
ANKARA – Following a major political move by Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli, the Turkish state has taken the initiative. A delegation from the Turkish Grand National Assembly's (TBMM) newly formed National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission visited PKK founder Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı Prison Island yesterday, November 24, 2025.
The move comes after Bahçeli had publicly sought permission from his constituents and party to personally visit the jailed leader, a proposal that was overwhelmingly approved by his base.
👥 Three Major Parties Represented
The delegation, comprising representatives from Turkey's three largest political parties, conducted the high-level meeting.
The representatives are:
AK Party: Deputy Chairman and Hatay MP Hüseyin Yayman
MHP: Deputy Chairman Feti Yıldız
DEM Party: Group Deputy Chair and Kars MP Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit
The TBMM stated that the talks aim to advance the process toward social integration, strengthening brotherhood, and regional stability. The specifics of the meeting, including notes on possible disarmament or dissolution of the PKK, are expected to remain classified for ten years.
