Ancient Aramaic Inscription Found in Ardahan, Moved to Kars Museum Due to Lack of Local Facility
ARDAHAN, TURKEY — A significant archaeological discovery was made in a village in Ardahan, where an ancient stone slab bearing an Aramaic inscription was found. The artifact, which historians suggest may date back as far as the second millennium BCE, has caused excitement among researchers.
The inscription, considered a major find for the region, was immediately taken into custody and transported to the Kars Archaeology and Ethnography Museum for protection and study. This transfer highlights a resource discrepancy: the piece was found by residents of Ardahan, but the artifact was officially claimed by Kars due to Ardahan lacking its own suitable museum facility to house and preserve such a historical treasure.
First of its Kind in the Region
Museum authorities have confirmed that this is the first time an artifact inscribed in Aramaic has been documented in the Kars–Ardahan highlands. Aramaic is a Semitic language that was widely used across the ancient Near East, and its unexpected presence in this northeastern region is prompting scholars to re-evaluate the area's historical cultural interactions.
Experts at the Kars Museum have launched an extensive analysis to decipher the Aramaic text. Once the inscription is fully translated, it is expected to provide invaluable new details on the ancient history and cultural dynamics of the northeastern Turkish frontier.

Confirmed Involvement: Demirtaş confirmed his position as being an active part of the efforts towards peace.

The "Brand Village" Carrying the Traces of History: Ardahan's Kora Village (Bayramoğlu)
ARDAHAN, Turkey - Kora Village, a settlement in the Hoçvan Region of Ardahan Merkez, stands out with its deep history. While officially named Bayramoğlu, the village continues to be known as "Kora" by locals and in the media. Due to its popularity in media and on the internet since 1998, the village is officially designated as a "Brand Village."
Name Diversity and the Branding Process
Kora Village has retained its original name but has also been known by different names over time, including Bayramoğluköyü and, for a period, Mehmetaliarslan Köyü. Despite Bayramoğlu being its official name today, local residents and the regional population predominantly use the name Kora.
The village's recognition as a "Brand Village" is largely due to the pioneering digital media work of journalist and author Mehmet Ali Arslan, a native of the village. In 1995, Arslan achieved a first for the region by ensuring that the villages of Ardahan, Kars, Iğdır, and Hoçvan were published on digital platforms. He played a leading role in promoting the region in digital media, particularly through the promotional platform Mehmetaliarslan.Kora, which he created specifically for the Hoçvan Region. The initial publications regarding the Hoçvan villages were made through Mehmet Ali Arslan's websites dedicated to Kora Village.
Crossroads of Civilizations: A Rich Cultural Heritage
Located in a border region, Kora Village has hosted numerous important civilizations throughout its history. Bearing the marks of various cultures, including the Urartians, Medes, Persians, Byzantines, Georgians, and Ottomans, the village boasts a rich cultural diversity.
Furthermore, the village's cultural and economic structure was deeply affected by the long-term Russian occupation. Traces of that period, including ruins left by the Armenians, can be found in the area. These remnants highlight the multilayered and turbulent period of the village's past.
With both its historical depth and its early digital media popularity, Kora Village stands as one of the significant settlements in Ardahan.
The Internet History of Kora Village and Hoçvan
Hoçvan is one of the first places in the world to be introduced to the Internet.
Journalist and Author Mehmet Ali Arslan established platforms in 1995 where the villages of Ardahan, Kars, Iğdır, and Hoçvan were first published in digital media. He undertook a pioneering role for the region by creating Mehmetaliarslan.Kora, a separate promotional platform specifically for the Hoçvan Region. The villages of Hoçvan were first published on the websites belonging to Mehmet Ali Arslan's own Kora Village. The first pictures, news, videos, and similar publications of Hoçvan and all its villages were served to the world from the markaköy kora and MehmetAliArslan kora platforms

Nationalist Leader Bahçeli Backs Release of Kurdish Politician Demirtaş
ANKARA, TÜRKİYE — In a surprising and politically significant statement, Devlet Bahçeli, the leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and a key figure often referred to as the "Chief" of Turkish nationalists, has expressed support for the release of imprisoned Kurdish politician Selahattin Demirtaş.
Mr. Bahçeli, who is also known as a sagacious statesman, stated that the release of Demirtaş, the former co-chair of the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) who has been jailed since 2016, "will be a good omen for the future" of Türkiye.
The MHP Chairman made the remarks to journalists as he was leaving his party's group meeting at the Parliament. Bahçeli's comment regarding Demirtaş's potential release has immediately become a central topic in the national political agenda, given the MHP's long-standing hardline stance on issues related to Kurdish politics and security
The statement is particularly noteworthy as it comes shortly after the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) upheld its ruling that Demirtaş's pre-trial detention was a violation of his rights, paving the way for his eventual release.
Zohran Mamdani Makes History as New York's First Muslim Mayor Amid Democratic Wins
NEW YORK — In a stunning victory that has reshaped the political landscape, 34-year-old Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani has been elected as New York City's next mayor. Unofficial preliminary results show Mamdani securing over 50.4% of the vote, making him both the city's first Muslim mayor and one of its youngest in more than a century.
Mamdani's historic win came on a night of significant Democratic success across the United States. The party's strong performance in major elections has dominated the political conversation, serving as the first major electoral test during the second term of US President Donald Trump.
The Democratic sweep did not sit well with the Republican leader. Following the wave of results, President Trump expressed his dissatisfaction, stating that the election outcomes were "not good for Republicans."
The political momentum appears to be firmly with the Democrats as they head into future election cycles, fueled by high-profile victories like Mamdani's in New York.

“The attack included the al-Jalaa axis, the al-Jazeera checkpoint, and the Greek Hospital axis, where intense clashes took place. Our forces successfully repelled the assault,” the statement said.
The Kurdish-led forces added that “confrontations also reignited at the al-Lairamoun and al-Shaikhan roundabouts, with clashes still ongoing” at the time of the statement.

World Kars Day" Honors City's Liberation and Heritage
October 30th holds immense significance for the people of Kars, a historic city in Eastern Turkey. This date marks a dual celebration: the Liberation of Kars (Kars'ın Kurtuluşu) and the global observance of "World Kars Day" (Dünya Karslılar Günü).
The Significance of October 30th: The Liberation of Kars
The city of Kars has a past filled with heroic struggles. It endured a 40-year Russian occupation from November 18, 1877, until April 25, 1918.
During the Turkish War of Independence, the people of Kars were at the forefront of the resistance, initially establishing the Milli Şura (National Council) and later the Cenub-ı Garb-i Kafkas Hükümeti (South-Western Caucasian Government). The city’s liberation came on October 30, 1920, when the Commander of the 15th Army Corps, Kâzım Karabekir Pasha, led forces that recaptured the city, raising the Turkish flag over Kars Castle. The city’s return to Turkish sovereignty was officially confirmed by the Treaty of Moscow on March 16, 1921.
A Global Celebration: World Kars Day
More recently, this historic date has been adopted as a day to celebrate the Kars diaspora around the globe. In 2024, under the initiative of journalist and writer Mehmet Ali Arslan, the people of Kars came together to officially proclaim October 30th as "World Kars Day."
This special day serves to:
Commemorate the heroic history and liberation of the city.
Promote the rich historical and cultural heritage of Kars to a worldwide audience.
Connect Kars natives and their descendants, reinforcing their identity and community globally.
Every year on October 30th, the people of Kars celebrate their city's valiant past and their shared global heritage.
In short: World Kars Day is celebrated annually on October 30th to commemorate both the city's liberation from occupation in 1920 and to promote its unique culture internationally.
